A Saturday At Home

Well, I have felt quite the energy.  Yesterday I went for my pre-admission screening.  They took 4 tubes of blood and made me sign a statement so that I would wear a bracelet all weekend.  At first, I thought it was a joke, until they gave me the piece of paper to sign that said if I took it off I'd have to have more blood drawn the day of my surgery.

Pretty Wristband

All the laundry is pretty much done...except the stuff that people took off last night and bath towels.
I got my son's clothes gone through.  Now his clothes drawers are in order and he has no excuse to let it get out of hand again.  I got money for my birthday so I went to Trees and Trends in Jonesboro.  I was going to get a metal music wall art that I've had my eye on since before Christmas, BUT they were out of them.  I'm not going to pout because I also found the same thing online.  I did purchase a very pretty canvas painting for 10.00!  I was very excited about that.  I also went to Dollar General and bought two lamps for the bedroom.  SCORE!

Wow...I got off track.  Back to Friday.

So I had to have my blood drawn.  Then, I talked to the dietician and got my diet for the rest of my life...
She's supposed to come and see me at the hospital also, but so far I don't have any questions.  I also talked to a Physical Therapist.  He was a really nice guy and basically told me that I needed to make sure I was mobile after my surgery...duh!  I know, same drill when I had my c-section.  Fluff (aka Fart), wallk, burp and poop.  :)  Yeah, pleasant thought I'm bringing to you, eh?!?
I also talked to a Respiratory Therapist.  She gave me a little plastic thing that I can do breathing exercises with.  Then I also spoke with the Surgery RN.  She gave me 2 things of Hibiclens soap.  I will have to wash before I go to bed and when I wake up on Monday for surgery.  I have to change my bed sheets and sleep on clean sheets Sunday night.  I can't put any lotions or perfume or even deodorant on.  Good thing it's cold outside.  I can't shave either.  I think back to Glen having heart surgery and they told the same thing to him.  They didn't want any little hair follicles to accidentally make it into the surgical opening.  Makes sense.  Maybe the hair on my legs will make me warmer...I mean there is snow on the ground.  :)  LOL!

So all the bedrooms and kitchen are orderly.  Gotta scrub the bathrooms today.  Pick up and sweep the living room.  I still need to clean out the Escape.  Mom will be driving it since she is coming via train.  We get to go and pick her up after midnight tonight.  We are all excited!

I can't wait!  I'm so anxious!

Tuesdays gone with the wind...

Back to work today.  It was such an easy day.  Of course all that I had to keep in mind was that I only had 1 day left to work until February 14th after today.  It's amazing what meanie heads you can deal with when you know that.  :)  Larry was such a sweetie today.  He and our son have been sick so they stayed at the house.  ...medicine, soup, medicine, soup...

I have all of Larry and my laundry finished.  Just have to get our son's done and then the laundry will be complete.  But then again, who am I kidding... I think that the laundry copulates!  The important thing is that I NOT get behind.  Also, I vacuumed the floors and even put up one picture.  Don't get too excited though.  There was a nail already on the wall and I just stuck it there.

Tuesday Food

Cinnamon Crisp Cereal
4 oz. Skim Milk
Cubed Cheese

I'm looking forward to the liquid cycle!!
Heck, I'm looking forward to the surgery!  I can't wait it seems.  Happy Birthday to me!!!

Monday Monday dah dah dah dah dah dah

Monday was great!  I had the day off since I needed to take a day off in January for my bday.  I'll be 27!  Hard to believe!  Anyway,  Larry was off and our son was out of school.  It was nice having the day off together.  However, poor kiddo had a fever.  I gave him a tylenol and he got better...and then again in the afternoon he felt bad again. I thought we kicked that but apparently not.  He woke up this morning again with a fever.  Larry hasn't been feeling good either.  I'm seriously thinking about wearing a mask around the house.  I can't get sick!!!

Monday food...

Cheesey Eggs with Veggies (and a tiny smidge of ketchup to help with the powdery taste)
Salmon Patty (Yeah, I did it...I ate a salmon patty...BUT I was under my 650 calories.  So ha ha!)

Checked the scale a moment ago...and...

I have now lost a total of 18 lbs!

Sunday

This morning I woke up at 5:45AM.  It was my rotation for singing at church.  While I was getting my makeup on, I got a weee bit dizzy. As soon as it came on, it was gone.  I didn't drink very much water yesterday though, so I've made it a point to get that in today.
I really enjoyed the message today from Pastor Charles.  We studied in Timothy, Peter, & Deuteronomy.  Basically, "Eat" the right food to "win".  We have to be "doers" of the word.  What are we doing for ourselves enternally?  Did I mention, that I just really enjoyed it?!  I sat through all 3 services and got something new each time.
I was so happy that my throat wasn't sore today.  Praise Jesus!  We sang a new song today also.  Everyone by Desperation Band.   Give it a listen!
I took a bar with me to eat after practice this morning.

Speaking of which here's my list of what I've eaten today:
1 Fudge Graham Bar
1 Cinnamon Crisp Cereal ( I don't know why they say cinnamon b/c I don't taste it...but it's my fave)
4 oz. Skim Milk
1 Chocolate Pudding

Was I sad today that I couldn't eat my normal Quesadilla Brava w/ Steak or my Spicy Chicken Chimichanga w/ Hot Sauce from Casa Brava?  Not really.   I realized when I started this journey that there would be foods that I may never get to eat again.  Now, I may GET to eat these things again after the fact...but definitely in a smaller portion.  Which seems like a win...I can have leftovers.  Either way, if I don't want it after the fact...well good for me!

Someone asked me today if I thought I was really ready for this...ABSOLUTELY.

Saturday Food

1 bag of Sour Cream and Onion Crunch O's
1 Chocolate Pudding
1 Chicken Noodle Soup
4 oz. Skim Milk

I realized I grabbed the wrong package while at work...it was one that I had already eaten my cereal out of but nothing else. I've come to realize that the cereal is my favorite!

Where did it go?!

Haha!  I stepped on the scale when I got home...AND...

drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrum roll please.....................

I have lost 16 pounds since going to the seminar!

Saturday Rambles

Waking up this morning I realized that today is the last Saturday that I will have to work until I am released after my surgery.  I am off on Monday for my birthday.  My birthday is Thursday but my place of employment gives you a personal day during your birthday month to take off.  I chose Monday because of MLK day.  Larry and my son will both be home.  It will be nice getting to enjoy their company.  After today, I will only have to work Tuesday and Wednesday and then I'm off.  I have so many things I WANT to get done before the big day.

Here are some thoughts of what my last few days will be like:

Hair Cut (I have dry shampoo so that if I don't feel up to it, Mom will be able to help me easily.)
Laundry (Every last bit will be washed, dried and put away)
Bedding (This is a given)
Passwords for work (Don't want to forget them and have to wait to be reset on first day back!)
House Work (Clean, Clean, Clean)
Books (Download some books to my iphone)
JP Drain (Will I need anything at home for this, sterile pads, cleaner...need to find out specifically what)
Bowls (Already have bowls that are specifically a cup)
Measuring Cup (I have one that I found that measures oz)
Baby Spoon (Others have purchased this, but I honestly don't think I'll need them)
Check supplies (Toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner)
Clothes for Son (I was thinking of us putting together outfits for 3-5 days)

More thoughts...  I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am the morning of my surgery. This means, Mom will be taking me.  Larry will have to stay behind to take our son to school.  After this, he can drive to the hospital.  I don't know where I'll be at in the course of Surgery/Recovery/Waiting.  We've already paid my part of the surgery, so that Larry won't have to worry about any of that.  All the paperwork will be done during my pre-admissions too.

I wish it would get warmer!  I want to go walking outside but it's just been tooo cold.  The snow hasn't even melted from last Sunday-Monday.  It is supposed to snow again on Sunday.

Looney and a day of tests!

Waiting for the IV to be taken out.

This morning I woke up raring to go.  I'm pooped though now!

What did I do?

Well, my wonderful husband Larry and I took our son to school and then headed for our 30 minute road trip to the Hospital for my EGD.
I don't guess I knew exactly what to expect.  I'm super happy though that my Grandma always taught me to take a shower and wear clean panties and deodorant before a Dr's appointment.
So, I checked in at the admissions desk and ran into a girl I graduated with.  *side note-it's been 8 years since we graduated.*  Then, I was taken upstairs to get ready.  I had already told Larry the night before oh man, I hope I don't have to wear one of those hospital gowns for this.  ...and he and I walk into a room with many people with curtains pulled...little privacy.  AND...guess what I see... YEP...a hospital gown.  We both laughed.  I couldn't get the curtain to pull all of the way closed so Larry stood in the crack for me.   So, I get my gown on, get all my clothes and my shoes in a bag and then get laid down.  Next, the nurse basically is telling me how things are going to go down.  ...lab technician will come in to start your IV, your nurse will come in and ask you a bunch of questions...she's going to take you to the room and your husband will be taken to the waiting room...when we get you to the room you'll take some spray lidocaine to numb your throat and then we'll start giving you the happy medicine...it usally takes about 5 minutes, but depends on what they see...then from there you'll be in recovery for about 30 minutes and then be brought to here again where we'll allow your husband back in...take the IV off and then release you...and then we'll take you out by a wheelchair.

What do I remember?

-Lady poking me in the left arm bend and it infiltrated and then I had to be poked in the left forearm...this was successful.
-Discomfort from the blood pressure cuff.
-Doctor coming in and talking to me.
-Lidocaine spray tasting like Cepacol throat spray but definetly higher dosage. Was I crazy or did I really taste cherry?
-One of the Nurses basically putting this little cyclinder plastic piece that would keep my mouth open and I could bite it with my teeth.
-Wondering why I no longer had that on my mouth.
-Laughing because I could see that I had two pointer fingers on my left hand.  It had a blood oxygen monitor.
-Asking the nurse more questions about the procedure and how much longer until I would have it, and being told that they were finished.
-Being back in the recovery and talking to my honey.
-Getting out my IV and then being taking by wheelchair to meet Larry in the front of the hospital.

Now, Larry says we went and got gas at Sam's but I don't remember that.

Next place I went, was the the lab...I gave them my right arm.  They took 3 tubes of blood and sent me to the next floor down.  I got my chest xray taken, one with my chest to the wall of the unit and another with the left side of my body against the unit with my hands held up.  I was then free to head to the next floor down where I could get my EKG.  They stuck all the pads on me, and then hooked me up to the machine and told me to be still and then that was done after a minute it seemed.  I was free to check out.

At this point, I was planning to go and get my food for my diet from my Doctor's office.  When I went I ran into my WLS buddy!  It has been great being able to talk to someone else that is going through the same kind of processes.  She had tests today to and showed me her arm from her blood work.  My battle scars are in no way as bad as hers.

Successful IV Placement

Anyway, I ended up being told that I would need to wait until I spoke with the nurse at my appointment time at 3pm and that I really should not have started my diet until today.  (GRRR!  I could have had the pizza)

So, while I'm eating lunch with Larry I get a call from the Doctor's office and I'm told that they can work me in earlier! YAY!  I'll go for it!

I get there and ask my uber million questions.  I'll probably be in the hospital from Monday to Wednesday. Basically, my preadmission will consist of the dietician since I got a lot of it done today.  My blood work was already back and everything was ok.  I asked questions about having other things alongside my things given and she said it would be okay, but that I really wanted to stay with the nutri-med stuff.   I also asked about items she might could think I could take...chapstick, mouthwash.  Although she said that I'll be able to have the liquids or ice chips fairly soon so I wouldn't have to worry about being dry.  I talked to her about medicines afterwards and I'll have liquid pain medicine and I won't have to have liquid vitamins.  They will send me home with B12 to dissolve under my tounge and chewable vitamins that would dissolve would be okay also.  She told me that I'd want something that had iron and calcium.

I have the upperhand on this diet because I've done it before.  I did really good last time.  So, I'm gonna' stay positive.  I came home and basked in the glow of FOOD.  Actual food instead of the liquid I stuck to yesterday.   I'm super excited!  I made out like a Gastric Nutri-Med Bandit!

The Goods!

After, getting back to my city it was time to pick up our son from school and take him to his Doctor's appointment.  We made a stop off at Dollar General for Skim Millk but they didn't have any so we went on to the gas station close to the house and BAM, Skim Milk!  ...we DID NOT want to go to Wal-Mart because we were so ready to be home.

Once home, I got some laundry started and cleaned out the refrig of leftovers and started the dishwasher I unpackaged all of my food/drinks.  Larry helped me sort and pack by day.  I coordinated meals/drinks to last me until my surgery into sandwich bags so all I have to do is grab and go!

Pizza?! The family was killing me tonight.

Well, I did well today considering I had none of my protein diet stuff from the Dr's office.

What did I eat today?

1 scoop of chocolate whey protein powder in 8 oz of water
applesauce
2 sticks of  sugar free gum
v8 juice
applesauce
mix in-orange early rise, heavily dilluted
water, water & more water

Tommorrow is my EGD and labwork.  I also have an appointment with the nurse in the afternoon.  Basically, it's going to be a full day of it.  I plan to get the food items tommorrow afternoon while I'm at the office.

I was so crushed this morning.  I had it all planned out that I would get to eat a cup of fruit for breakfast...until I looked on the can and found 9g of sugar...staying away.

Tonight the family had pizza, as the title mentions...it was the BEST smelling pizza ever.  But, it's probably because I shouldn't and won't have it.  It was quite tempting.  I just kept telling myself...Jana you were serious enough to go through all it took to get here...so don't even think about it.  That's a wonderful deterant.

I will say, since yesterday I have lost 2 lbs.  Crazy to think that!  When I went to the seminar in June I was 11 lbs heavier.

Honestly, can I tell that I have?

Well, not really but it sure makes me feel good!

Thanks again for reading!
